In order to establish a provisional government for the gold mining areas, an election was held in 1859. The Provisional Government of the Territory of Jefferson was the result, with a vote of one thousand eight hundred and fifty-two to two hundred and eighty. Along with that election came Robert Williamson Steele's seat as governor, who, in 1859, began the first Jefferson Territorial Legislature session in Denver. During this legislative session, it was decided that Auraria, Highland and Denver City would be consolidated into one. Now guests of the best Denver hotels can enjoy the unique culture of this "mile high" city.

In late October, the Mizel Arts and Culture Center presents the JAAMM Festival, which stands for Jewish Arts, Authors, Movies and Music Festival. It is a relatively new sister event to the Jewish Film Festival. The name makes the event rather self-explanatory. It is a highly unique event featuring art displays and workshops in the art section. The authors' portion coincides with the Annual Leah Cohen Festival of Jewish Books and Authors and also features talks and appearances by authors, a book sale and the Denver Jewish Community Reads, which includes readings of children's books. The kickoff event for the Movies part is actually the Jewish Film Festival, though some films are sometimes screened independently of this.

The Denver Botanic Gardens celebrates Earth Day by making admission free that day with lectures on water conservation and a tour of the "Water Smart Garden" and other sustainability topics. Visitors can explore the "Moore in the Gardens" display and go to the gardens' information desk to participate in a family scavenger hunt, browse the new gift shop, or get something to eat at the new café, called Offshoots at the Gardens. The menu consists of pastries, breakfast burritos, sandwiches, soups and salads. Everything is made with local, fresh and whenever possible, organic ingredients as a part of the garden's staff's belief in sustainability.

The Summer Art Market, presented by the Art Students League of Denver, is held for two days in mid-June and presents over two hundred artists, live music, food and free art projects for kids. The market has featured music by SAUNA, Ballet Mestizo, Sol Vida Dance, Mudra and more. The art projects for kids have included mask making, princess and pirate hat making, finger painting, animal mask making and paper puppets. All exhibiting artists are local and all the work is original.

Reservations are required and cameras, amongst other items, are not allowed in the touring facility. Visitors must arrive at least fifteen minutes before their scheduled tour times.

The Lakeside Amusement Park features forty rides, with bumper cars, a drop tower, a merry go round and traditional roller coasters including the Cyclone Roller Coaster, which was built in 1940. It also features a mini steam train, which provides visitors with a tour of the park, which resides on a lake and hence the name. There is a kid's park for small children with fifteen rides. The park welcomes picnics and other events.

The Wildlife Experience is an interactive museum featuring both temporary and permanent exhibits. Permanent displays include The Discovery Den, which teaches about the water cycle and erosion and has an arts and crafts section. The Cubs Corner is for especially small children, where they can dress up as animals or "Build Like a Beaver", a display where kids learn how dams are made. The Wildlife Walk gives visitors a tour of the museum and a look at some of the resident plants and animals. The museum also contains a gift shop and cafe.
